Storage Unit Packing Tips: 3 Organization tricks

Categories: Self-Storage

When the time comes to load up the truck and head to your storage unit you might not think the packing order of the truck matters. But it does and it can help make your loading and unloading experience a whole lot easier.

While circumstances might be less than desirable when you are in need of a storage unit you can help alleviate some of that stress by creating a plan for loading, unloading and filling your unit.

3 tips for Storage Unit Organization, you won’t regret.

Here are three things to help you spend less time worrying and more time working.

  1. Labels. There is no such thing as too many labels. Label the front, sides top and even the bottom of your boxes. This way no matter where this item gets placed you’ll be able to identify its contents. While you’re busy making labels, do yourself a favor and make up an inventory list as well. Organization doesn’t have to be complicated but it will help you feel more in control of the situation. Be sure to photograph any important items. You can also store this information electronically by emailing it to yourself or a trusted family member.
  2. Load your truck with little items up front and bigger items like dressers, bookcases or appliances in back. Why? when you get to your storage unit the bigger items will be unloaded from the truck first. Meaning they can go into the storage unit first. Allowing for less leg work instead of having to unload, reorganize and then load the storage unit.
  3. Space. Leave a small gap around the walls of your storage unit. This will allow for air flow. Also, leave yourself an aisle so you can easily access items in the back of the unit. While you might not think this is important it can help save you time and energy once you’ve loaded everything into your unit and decide there is an item you need.
