Top Two Storage Unit Tips for organization and functionality
Welcome to your Storage Unit, now what?
Let’s pretend you’ve already made the decision to store things, now comes the tedious part: packing.
One of the most important things that should take place while packing is the Labeling of Boxes.
“But it takes so much longer to stop and label every box”
“I’ll remember what’s in this one, it’ll be fine”.
These are just two examples of famous packing last words. Say you are able to recall what is in every box, you go out of state and someone else needs to retrieve something from your unit. What then? You’re going to spend time on the phone walking them through the placement of items in your unit, or they will start moving things and that will mess up your impeccable internal map of the whereabouts of items. Do either of these options sounds like a good thing? Because from where we’re sitting this is more of a hassle than it should be.
Take a second while packing and label everything. You’ll be glad you did. This is the first amazing tip #1) Label Boxes.
Secondly, we suggest you Create An Inventory List. Now this is definitely going to be tedious and time consuming. Why on earth would we suggest it as an amazing tip? Have you ever gone to the store and purchased an awesome item, only to get home and realize you’ve already got it? oh, no never right? We’re guilty of it, owing two copies of a movie or CD. Downloading that track off iTunes only to realize you have the entire album as well. By taking the extra time to create a list of your belongings you’ll be able to see what you own, this way you don’t duplicate your purchases. Another perk to having an inventory list is that you know what you do and don’t need to create space for when redecorating, or trying to locate an item.
“I have that end table in my unit, if I move the dresser it’ll fit there next to the bed”
“Where did I put that box of movies, let’s see oh here. It’s in the storage unit I’ll have to go pick it up”.
While it will be time consuming, there are more benefits to having an inventory list than not having one. The biggest being for insurance purposes, should the unthinkable happen.
Create an Inventory List, you’ll know what you have and where it is.
